Makers & Creators is organised by Melanie, a Christchurch-based maker with a background in hands-on creative work. Over the years, she has explored everything from thrifting and furniture upcycling to candle making and painting. Two years ago, she began making jewellery and has been selling her work at markets across Christchurch and surrounds ever since. 

While trading at markets, Melanie noticed a rise in stallholders reselling low-cost, factory-made products - sometimes being passed off as 'handmade'. She saw a need for a community-based market that focused on genuine handmade items and uniquely created products that reflect originality and craftsmanship.

As both a maker and a market organiser, Melanie understands the importance of a well-run, well-promoted event. She puts in the extra effort to ensure the market is widely publicised, particularly within the eastern suburbs of Christchurch, where Makers & Creators was founded.
